Stress-Free Pet Visits in Windham
Has your pet ever had a stressful experience at the vet? Do you find yourself dreading the time of year when your pet’s due for an exam?
This is the case for many pet owners, but it doesn’t have to be if you bring your pet to Canobie Lake Veterinary Hospital. That’s because we’re a stress-free animal hospital, and we’ve been practicing stress-free animal handling techniques ever since we first opened our doors in 2005.
What exactly does this mean?
It means our staff is specially trained to take extra steps to ensure that your companion has a comfortable, safe experience at our hospital. Some of the techniques we use include:
- Veterinarian carrying cat
- Handling with minimal restraint
- Handling one pet at a time in our treatment area
- Avoiding any quick or sudden movements
- Explaining what we are going to do before we do it
- Taking the time to speak to every pet to assure them that they’ll be safe*
Bottom line? We want your pet to have a peaceful, stress-free experience at every visit to our animal hospital, and we’re committed to doing everything we can to make that happen. Please give us a call at 603-898-8982 if you’d like to schedule a stress-free pet visit here in Windham or if you have any questions.
*A study featured in the Washington Post in August 2016 determined that dogs actually understand what their owners say beyond just standard commands. This is based on a groundbreaking study performed by scientists in Hungary that involved scanning the brain activity of dogs when certain words were spoken. Cats (and other domestic animals) are also likely to understand words and tones, according to Dr. Tamás Faragó, who was involved in the study. So although it may seem a little unusual, we find that when we speak directly to our patients, they are much more calm and comfortable.
Veteran/Service Dog Program
Canobie Lake Veterinary Hospital will provide free preventive care for up to five, veteran-owned, PTSD service dogs, for the life of the pet, as long as it is owned by the veteran.* (We will include the same services as in our Preventive Care Plans.) If you are a veteran with a PTSD service dog and want to be considered for the program, please contact Chanda Brooks, our Practice Manager, at 603-898-8982.
If you are entered into the program you will need to complete a Client Information form and a Patient Information form. You must bring your pet in for services no later than 30 days after their due date. (We will remind you via text, email, postcard and/or telephone, as you prefer.) Failure to bring your dog in for services within 30 days after the due date will result in removal from the program. If you are removed from the program, you may reapply and will be considered if an opening is available. If there are no openings, you will be placed on a waiting list.
*We reserve the right to cancel this program at any time.
